SOFIA MEDIC & LAURA KALAUZ

Bio

Sofía Medici (Buenos Aires – Argentina, 1974)
Laura Kalauz (Buenos Aires – Argentina, 1975)


Their works raise questions about contemporary life. The interest lies in reviewing the assumptions that govern social behavior, shaping our way of doing and thinking different situations, by developing strategies that investigate the power of artistic practice meddleing through reality and generating political imagination in the viewer.


Their projects practice media are: conferences, performances, excursions-tours, debates, theatre plays, exhibitons and installations. 


Their Works: Nostalgia for a Future Science Fiction (2014), Reported Speech (2015), Monumental Project (2017), Darwin kidnaps three Fuegians and teaches them English (2017) and Historical Line (2018).


These works have been presented in different areas of Argentina and abroad, among which the Performance Biennial (2019), the International Dramaturgy Festival (2018), NAVE (Santiago de Chile, 2017), BienalSur (Casa del Bicentenario) 2017), Venice Biennale (2015), De Singel (Antwerp 2014).

“No scientific study escapes the logic of knowledge / power. Thus Darwin's theories became useful tools for European colonization. "Darwin kidnaps three Fuegians and theaches them english”, a video-installation by Sofia Medici and Laura Kalauz denunciates the violence of the anthropological persecution poured over our Yamana culture. "

Biografía

Sofía Medici (Buenos Aires – Argentina, 1974)
Laura Kalauz (Buenos Aires – Argentina, 1975)


Sus trabajos plantean preguntas sobre la vida contemporánea. El interés radica en revisar los supuestos que rigen el comportamiento social, dando forma a nuestro modo de hacer y pensar. Así, desarrollan estrategias que investigan el poder de la práctica artística para intervenir la realidad y generar a su paso imaginación política.


Sus proyectos toman la forma de conferencias, performances, excursiones, debates, obras de teatro, muestras e instalaciones. Han creado Nostalgia de una Ciencia Ficción Futura (2014), Reported Speech (2015), Proyecto Monumental(2017), Darwin secuestra a tres fueguinos y les enseña inglés (2017) y Línea Histórica (2018).

Dichas obras han sido presentadas en distintos espacios de Argentina y del exterior, entre los que se destacan la Bienal de Performance (2019), el Festival Internacional de Dramaturgia (2018), NAVE (Santiago de Chile, 2017), BienalSur (Casa del Bicentenario 2017), Bienal de Venecia (2015), De Singel (Amberes 2014).
